On 3rd March 2009, when a bus carrying Sri Lankan cricketers 12 terrorist waged a brazen attack in broad daylight against member of the Sri Lankan cricket team. Five Srilankan cricketers were wounded whereas including 6 police officers eight people died. From resources it is revealed that Gulberg near Liberty Chowk few unknown people attacked on Srilankan cricketers when they were near to stadium. After the incident there had been severe firing between militants and police. According to the security in charge of Qaddafi stadium before firing there had been two blasts and after that militants started firing on srilankan cricket team aggressively.
These were the first attacks on a national sports team since the Munich massacre of Israeli athletes by Palestinian militants in 1972.
